The City Council on Monday put off a vote on a travel policy that Mayor H. Rick Gardner had proposed for council members.
The policy would require council members to follow roughly the same procedures that other city employees obey when seeking advances or reimbursements for business travel.
Councilman A.C. Robinson recommended waiting until a February meeting so the council could review policies he had obtained from other cities. Robinson, whose documentation from a recent business trip was criticized in a newspaper, said the paper had created a problem where none existed.
Gardner said he began working on a council travel policy earlier and did not intend to single anyone out.
``This policy that I suggested here two weeks ago was not intended in any way to point a finger or offend any person on this council,'' Gardner said. He added, ``When we spend our taxpayers' money, we are responsible for saying where it went.'' by CNB
