So Portsmouth City Councilman Cameron Pitts doesn't like the idea of riverboat gambling coming to town, fearing that it ``would likely bring crime, corruption and social ills to the city.''
It might also bring some much-needed tax revenue and jobs, which may even alleviate some social ills. And if a few crooked riverboat gambling types follow, well, to paraphrase the late Gov. Huey P. Long of Louisiana, we could use a better class of criminals around here anyway.
