A Newport News teenager was arrested Monday night and charged with murder in the fatal shooting Saturday of Richard Carl Barkley of Cobbs Creek.
Barry E. Sollars, 18, of the 400 block of Harston Court was arrested at an arcade in the 400 block of Oriana Road about 7 p.m., police said.
He was also charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and firearms violations.
Police said Barkley, 35, and a friend drove to Newport News to sell a the three drove to a fast-food resturant parking lot in the 400 block of Denbigh Blvd., police said.
There, Sollars shot Barkley once in the neck with a handgun and then ran from the car, police said. Barkley was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
