While my complaint may smack of an overwrought cry for political correctness, I nonetheless take issue with your use of the word ``cyclists'' in the Page A1 headline ``Cyclist uses hatchet in assault on woman'' (Jan. 14).
On behalf of helmet-wearing, law-abiding, training-or-commuting cyclists, I point out that the assailant in the story was merely a man riding a bicycle, not a cyclist. Had he used a baseball bat, would you have referred to him as a baseball player?
Cyclists have enough of an image problem without having a hatchet-wielding felon added to our ranks by a careless headline writer.
