DORIS D. SWOFFORD

Doris Jane Dawes Swofford, 77, of the 300 block of Lynn Shores Drive, a retired bookkeeper and homemaker, died Jan. 25, 1995, in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Swofford was born in Slater, Mo., and was a Methodist. She was the widow of Harley Morris Dawes and was retired from Stephens Clothing in Parsons, Kan.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Gilbert of Virginia Beach and Jennie Sue Clark of Garland, Texas; a son, Walter L. Grant of Virginia Beach; a sister, Catherine Hagedorn of Marshall, Mo.; a brother, John Dawes of Asheville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Michael Turner. Friends may join the family at the funeral home following the services today for visitation. Mrs. Swofford will be sent to the Burris-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, Kan., for a graveside service on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Memorial Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. J.C. Kelly. Visitation at the funeral home in Kansas will be from noon to 1:30 p.m.
