Two Suffolk residents who helped police track down a man convicted of slaying a woman and dismembering her body will receive the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Association Civilian Award.
Lewis Megginson and Amy Wilkerson were driving on Rte. 58 in Suffolk in April 1993 when they saw a man toss a duffle bag from a bridge into Lake Meade. They wrote down the man's license plate number and reported his actions to police.
Their report led to the arrest of Mark Christopher Poe in the slaying of Judy Beecher Greer of Norfolk, a 20-year-old Navy wife. Poe was disposing of Greer's body parts when Megginson and Wilkerson saw him.
Poe was convicted in U.S. District Court of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life without parole.
Association president Victor Oboyski said Megginson and Wilkerson's actions reflected ``high standards and dedication to civic duty that all people should be proud of.'' The award will be given this spring. by CNB
