When the Portsmouth Humane Society was awarded custody of 18 cats in December, shelter executive director Lewis Tefft was pessimistic that homes could be found for the majority of the animals. Most were adult cats, with little experience at bonding with humans, and therefore would be hard to place.
Tefft now reports, however, that all but four of the cats have been adopted. One had to be euthanized because of feline leukemia.
The cats originally were picked up in August by animal control officers investigating a complaint in the Grove Park neighborhood.
The Portsmouth Humane Society is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. by CNB
