Reading the first of your informative series on education, I was disturbed by the comments of a student who felt it was a waste of her time to memorize and write the Constitution of the United States.
If her teachers are not required to explain the importance of the Constitution, the system is failing. Prior to the Declaration of Independence and subsequent adoption of the Constitution, power, for the most part, emanated down from a monarchy, not up from ``we the people.''
What has happened to the high-school course in civics?
Our country faces a sad future with education so remiss.
