Beulah Vesta Oakley Dowdy, 90, a homemaker, died Jan. 25, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mrs. Dowdy was born in Rocky Mount, N.C., and was a Protestant. She was the widow of Paul Mack Dowdy.
Survivors include five daughters, Pauline Abbitt, Dorothy Brock, both of Virginia Beach, Shirley Wilcox of Findley, Ohio, Delores Dowdy of Portsmouth and Carolyn Curry of Newark, Del.; four sons, Oshay Dowdy of Norfolk, Donald Dowdy of Red Springs, N.C., Johnny Dowdy of Atlanta, Ga., Roy Dowdy of Zebulon, Ga.; two sisters, Gladys Turner and Irma Mooring, and a brother, Vernon Oakley, all of Rocky Mount, N.C.; 34 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, N.C., by the Rev. J.J .Hill. The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 9 pm. today.
