Emma Tarkenton Hunter, 98, formerly of Hertford and Elizabeth City, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, 1995, in a Chesapeake nursing home.
A native of Hertford, N.C., she was the daughter of Mathias Levi Tarkenton and Frances Elizabeth Brickhouse Tarkenton and the widow of William Oscar Hunter. She was a member of City Road United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucy H. Sawyer of Chesapeake; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Hertford, N.C., with Swindell Funeral Home of Hertford in charge. The family will receive friends at 909 Mayfield Ave., Chesapeake, prior to the service and at Swindell Funeral Home following the service.
