The Dare County Airport Authority unanimously approved rule changes which will eliminate a minimum building size for businesses locating at the Roanoke Island facility, Dare County Airport Manager Tim Gaylord said Thursday.
Six of the nine Airport Authority members attended a regular meeting on Wednesday night and agreed to drop the 1,400 square-foot minimum size limit for businesses.
``Hopefully, that change will stimulate business at the airport by being less restrictive,'' Gaylord said.
Airport Authority members also agreed to appropriate $26,500 for runway repairs. A state grant will provide matching funds for the $53,000 repair project.
The authority announced plans to begin a joint ground school with the College of the Albemarle's Dare County Campus.
Beginning Feb. 7, people interested in learning to fly can take classes for the ground school portion of the pilot's license test at the Manteo branch of the community college.
Classes will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights for 10 weeks. Cost is tentatively set at $25 plus books. For more information, call the College of the Albemarle at 919-473-2264. by CNB
