COMMUNICATE AND STAY INVOLVED

We regret to inform you that The Virginian-Pilot has decided that this will be the last column in light of certain budgetary considerations.

We have enjoyed writing it for the last three years and we are sad to have it come to an end.

We know that this will mean a loss of a primary source of information for many of you. The column has been a catalyst for many beneficial discussions.

With more than 150,000 residents in the area living in community associations and with 50 percent of new homes being built in communities with associations, there is a need for education and information to be provided for the residents and potential buyers.

Our recent survey article resulted in more than 200 calls, of which 80 percent were happy owners. The largest single complaint was that the board did a poor job of communicating with the owners and residents.

The factor that these happy owners found most beneficial about association living is architectural control.

The second most positive factor was social activities. We know that this is an indication of the satisfaction most owners have in their associations.

We encourage you to get involved with your association. Become an informed member.

Join a committee, serve on the board or just be sure you know what is happening.

Living in a community association is an opportunity to have direct input into the quality of the neighborhood you will live in. Getting involved means a better community.

We would like to thank all of you for your support, questions and compliments. We know that the column had a positive impact. by CNB
