DREW WILSON/Staff
Two muskrats feed at the edge of a freshwater pond in Nags Head.
Muskrats are rodents that use their scaly, flat tails to steer in
the water. The webbed toes on their hind feet help them swim. They
live mainly in burrows they dig in the banks of streams, and eat a
variety of foods, including vegetation, twigs and snails.
