The University of Virginia's former student union director was charged by university police Thursday with two counts of embezzlement for allegedly misusing $1,171 of U.Va. funds.
U.Va. police said Greer D. Wilson was reimbursed by the university for $318 in air fare for a November 1991 trip that was for personal consulting work. In June 1994, police said, Wilson used state employees for personal business, costing the university $853. Police did not offer further details.
Wilson resigned last month. U.Va. spokeswoman Louise Dudley declined to say whether she had been pressured to leave.
Wilson was released after posting $2,500 bond. She is to stand trial Feb. 28 in Albemarle County General District Court.
If convicted, she could face a prison sentence of two to 10 years and a maximum fine of $100,000, U.Va. police Sgt. Michael Abbott said.
Wilson had been director of Newcomb Hall, the student union building, since 1988, Dudley said. Wilson could not be reached Friday.
