GUN FIRED DURING ROBBERY

A gun was fired inside a downtown drugstore early Friday during an armed robbery.

No one was hurt.

Det. J.D. Bangley and store employees gave this account:

Two men, both carrying handguns, entered the back door of Jos. P. Hall Drug Co. Inc. in the 100 block of West Washington St. about 9:30 a.m.

Black scarves covered their faces, and they wore black jackets with hoods pulled over their heads.

Two employees and a customer were in the store. One robber pointed a gun at a part-time employee, who was on the phone, and ordered her to hang up. The other man held a gun at the head of the pharmacist and demanded money from the cash register.

The men took the money and went out the back, one firing his gun as he left.

The suspects were described as black with dark complexions. They were about 6 feet tall and in their 20s. One weighed about 165 pounds, the other about 180 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk police at 925-6350 or Crime Line at 539-1222.
