With all the pomp on Battlefield Boulevard this week, it may look as if the Super Bowl is in town. But it's only the grand opening of Lowe's, Chesapeake's newest home improvement store.
Beginning Thursday, the 150,000-square-foot store opened for business.
City officials scheduled to attend the grand opening ceremonies include Vice Mayor Arthur L. Dwyer, City Manager James W. Rein, Sheriff John R. Newhart, and Police Chief Ian M. Shipley Jr. They are in good company with the Energizer Bunny, the Green and Pink Power Ranger, McGruff the Crime Dog and Rip Tide, the Norfolk Tides' mascot.
More than 50 different special events, promotions, demonstrations and prize giveaways are scheduled for the event, according to Lowe's officials.
Lowe's stores in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach will both offer RCA 35-inch televisions and $1,000 shopping sprees as sweepstakes prizes. Customers 18 and older will be eligible to enter, and each store will draw a winner from all eligible entries today at 4:45 p.m.
As a gift to new neighbors, Chesapeake Lowe's store manager, Ron Hubbard, presented a donation of $1,000 to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters Thursday. by CNB
