ROBERT YOUNG DEWAR SR.

Robert Young Dewar, Sr. died at his home in Valdosta, Ga., January 27 after a long illness.

He was born January 24, 1909, in Tift County, Georgia. Mr. Dewar graduated from Mercer University with an A.B. Degree and earned an L.L.B. degree from Lumpkin Law School at the University of Georgia. He was a member emeritus of the Georgia State Bar, having been awarded the Certificate of Accomplishment for completing more than 50 years of service in the legal profession.

Before he began practicing law he served as a teacher and Principal in the public schools of south Georgia.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Valdosta for 70 years and taught Sunday School, was a lay speaker and member of the Administrative Board and United Methodist Men.

Surviving him are his wife of 53 years, Mary Lois Pafford Dewar, a daughter, Fann Dewar Greer and son-in-law William T. Greer, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia, a son Robert Y. Dewar, Jr., daughter-in-law Sarah Scholtz Dewar and his brother James L. Dewar, Sr. of Valdosta, Georgia, and his five grandchildren: William T. Greer, III, Robert Dewar Greer and David B. Greer of Norfolk, Virginia, and Melonye Ann Dewar and Sarah Caroline Dewar of Valdosta, Georgia.

Memorial Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Valdosta, Monday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. and then at the graveside at Sunset Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Mike McAfee and the Reverend William T. Greer, Jr., President of Virginia Wesleyan College, officiating.

Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, Ga. is serving the family of Mr. Dewar.
