BEACH MAN DIES FROM INJURIES IN VAN ACCIDENT

A 56-year-old employee of the school system died in a hospital Saturday morning of injuries he suffered when the van he was in was struck by another van.

Roy H. Roark of the 600 block of Minuteman Road was one of three people hurt in the accident that occurred Jan. 19 when a van traveling at high speed ran a red light the intersection of Great Neck Road and Mill Dam Road and struck the van Roark was in.

Police said a 1986 Ford Aerostar van driven by Lessell Bailey, 43, of the 3700 block of Frazier Lane, was southbound on Great Neck at about 2:25 p.m., when it failed to stop for a red light. The vehicle struck a van belonging to the Virginia Beach schools' maintenance department and driven by Roark.

A co-worker in the school van, Daniel McCombs, 39, of the 500 block of Brentwater Road, also was hospitalized, as was Bailey.

Police said charges against Bailey are pending.
