As I was on my way out to the two federal prisons where I serve as a volunteer chaplain, I learned of the decision of the Norfolk sheriff to ban the Salvation Army Christmas bags from the Norfolk City Jail.
More appalling was the tone of recent letters in which people threaten to withhold contributions to the Salvation Army because of its interest in ministering to those in prison.
With very few exceptions, all the men and women in jail and prison now will someday get out. They will then be our neighbors, yours and mine. What sort of neighbors do you want?
Remember those in prison. And reread Matthew 25.
