Shirley Mae Sparrow, 39, died Jan. 28, 1995, at Hospice of Northern Virginia.
She was raised by her grandparents, Alice and Samford Collins. She was a corrections officer at Lorton Youth Corrections Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Dejonaba Newby of the home; a son, Joseph Newby of the home; three sisters, Regina Williams of Woodbridge, Janet Henderson of Norfolk, and Sharon Simpson, who is currently overseas; a brother, Aubrey Barrow of Norfolk; and maternal grandmother, Alice Collins of Norfolk.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Quantico National Cemetery. Visitation will be between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, Va.
