Bennie Carter ``B.C.'' Umphlette, 72, of the 4700 block of County St., died Jan. 30, 1995, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
A native of Gates County, N.C., he was the son of the late William Benjamin and Hortense Raby Umphlette. Mr. Umphlette was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the American Legion Post Number 57. He was a Methodist and a member of the Teamsters Union, the Knights of Pythias and the Portsmouth Moose Lodge. He had retired from Atlantic Cement.
Survivors include his daughters, Natalie R. Kay of Suffolk and Cynthia L. Presson of Chesapeake; three sisters, Laursteen Casper of Virginia Beach, Mary Louise Rollison of Nags Head, N.C., and Bettie Sue Rhea of Richmond; three brothers, Henry Raby Umphlette of Nags Head, N.C., Harry L. Umphlette and Ben J. Umphlette, both of Suffolk; and a granddaughter, Lauren R. Presson of Chesapeake.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 5349 Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, Va., 23502.
