Verna Shreves Nelson, 98, formerly of Modest Town, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 1995, in Richmond.
Mrs. Nelson retired as an Accomack County schoolteacher after teaching 29 years. She was a member of Modest Town Baptist Church for 88 years and was a member of the Accomack County Woman's Club since 1930. She was the widow of Clarence DePew Nelson.
Survivors include her children, Janet Arrighi of Richmond and Sue Matthews of Atlantic; sisters, Louise Nicolls of Redmon, Wash. and Miriam Rankin of Darien, Conn.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Modest Town Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Robert Carpenter. Memorial contributions may be made to Modest Town Baptist Church Memorial Fund, c/o William H. West, P.O. Box 66, Nelsonia, Va. 23414. Williams-Parksley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
