JACK W. CALDWELL

Chief Warrant Officer Jack Wickersham Caldwell, U.S. Navy, retired, 78, of the 500 block of Peren Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 29, 1995 at his residence.

Mr. Caldwell was a native of Atchinson, Kansas and had resided in the Tidewater area for many years. He retired from the Navy Medical Service Corps after 23 years service and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of war. In addition, he served four years in Radiological Research at the Naval Radiological Laboratory in San Francisco and participated in atomic testing with Operation Greenhouse in 1951 on Eniwetok Atoll. He was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, the Retired Officers Association, US 17 Hunt Club, USS Oklahoma Association and was a member of Fallbrook Masonic Lodge 317, Fallbrook, Calif. for over 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Tarkenton Caldwell; one daughter, Sally Sue Loftin of Toledo, Ohio; three sons, Jack W. Caldwell Jr. of Gates Ferry, Conn., Capt. E.A. ``Corky'' Caldwell, USN, C.O. of Naval Air Station, Adak, Alaska, and Harry P. Caldwell of Wasilla, Alaska; one sister, Constance A. Hubert of Leavenworth, Kansas; and 14 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge by the Rev. Charles Moseley. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1102, Chesapeake, Va. 23327.
