State Reps. W.C. ``Bill'' Owens Jr. and William T. Culpepper III, both northeastern Democrats, fared well in committee appointments made by Republican House Speaker Harold Brubaker.
Owens said Monday he was named to the Appropriations, Agriculture, Local and Regional Government II and Education committees. He said he was on the Appropriations Subcommittee for Natural and Economic Resources, and ranking minority member on the Education Subcommittee on Community Colleges and Universities.
``I was elated they gave me everything I asked for,'' Owens said by car phone on his way to Raleigh Monday. ``Being on that many committees, I'm going to get to know more members on a personal basis.''
Owens, the new representative from the 1st District, serves Pasquotank, Currituck, Camden and part of Perquimans counties.
A spokesman in the speaker's office said Culpepper was named ranking minority member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and the Judiciary II Committee. He was also appointed to the Local and Regional Government II Committee and the Subcommittee on Family under the Welfare Reform and Human Services Committee.
Culpepper, from the 86th District, represents Chowan, Dare, Tyrrell and parts of Perquimans and Washington counties. by CNB
