PETE CARR: BANK MANAGER IN SMITHFIELD

FARMERS BANK, the oldest bank in Isle of Wight County, just became the newest bank in Smithfield by opening a branch on South Church Street.

In fact, the new Smithfield office is the first branch ever for Farmers Bank, and it's the first branch any bank has opened in Smithfield in seven years, says Pete Carr, assistant vice president and Smithfield branch manager.

Carr was working at Farmers Bank in Windsor, as assistant vice president for of compliance and as a loan officer, before coming to the Smithfield branch in December. He supervises five full-time and three part-time employees.

``Over the past few years, there have been a lot of Smithfield people who have shown an interest in having a Farmers Bank in Smithfield,'' Carr says.

``And since the growth in the county seems to be in the northern end - in the Smithfield/Carrollton area - it was definitely an area we wanted to get into.''

Since the branch opened its doors, the bank has added 180 accounts, Carr says.

``We're really pleased with that.''
