ARCHIE W. BARCLIFT

Mr. Archie Wellington Barclift, 91, of 512 Chautauqua Ave, Portsmouth died Monday at Portsmouth General Hospital. He was a native of Perquimans Co, N.C. and had retired as a Security officer with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Mr. Barclift was the son of the late Wellington Knight and Nettie Turner Barclift and the husband of Ella Mae Story Barclift.

Besides his wife, Mr. Barclift is survived by a son, Archie W. Barclift, Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Emma Booth Umphlett of Elizabeth City; three brothers, Kermit Barclift of Washington, Robert Barclift of Colonial Beach and Carlton Barclift of Annapolis, MD.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 2 at 2 p.m.in the New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Rattz and Rev. M. R. White, III officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside committal and at other times at the residence.

Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St. is in charge of arrangements.
