Mrs. Ruth L. Strauss, age 66, went to be with the Lord after an eight-year battle with Chronic Lymphecetic Leukemia, on January 30, 1995.
She was the wife of Rev. John Strauss, daughter of the late Gustave F. Eisele and Evelyn (nee Garrison) Eisele, and twin sister of Naomi Shaner, Evans City, Pa. Mrs. Strauss was retired from the Christian Broadcasting Network as Manager of Guest Services. She was previously employed as a secretary to the head of the Lebanon, Pa., YMCA and as a bookkeeper at Teen Challenge Training Farm at Rehrersburg, Pa.. She also was lead singer of the Harmonettes and John, a group founded by her and her husband during the 70s while they lived in central Pennsylvania. She assisted her husband in establishing a congregation in the Corolla Chapel, starting in 1987, always greeting the worshipers with a smile and a kind word. She also started the Children's Church, which ran parallel to the 10 a.m. morning Worship. She was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her.
Besides her husband and sister, she is survived by the extended family of Rick and Laura Griffis and their daughters, Amanda and Rachel; 2 aunts; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Friday, February 3 at the Corolla Chapel from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 10 a.m. in the Ark in Nags Head with Rev. Dr. Dick Gottier and Dr. George Jefferson are in charge. Internment will follow in Roanoke Island Memorial Park. Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements.
