The driver of a public school bus carrying two handicapped students was injured slightly in a crash Tuesday, police said.
Police spokesman Lou Thurston said a car driven by Jeanine Byers, 29, of the 2200 block of Willow Oaks Circle, pulled out of a parking lot near First Colonial and Great Neck roads and into the path of the bus shortly before 8 a.m.
The bus driver, identified as Arlene Robinson, 33, of the 1200 block of Carver Ave., tried to avoid the collision but couldn't, Thurston said.
The bus struck the car and Robinson lost control. The bus then left the road and rolled through a fence and into bushes, Thurston said.
Both drivers were taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital for minor neck and back pains, Thurston said.
The children, properly secured in restraints, were not injured, Thurston said. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
