BREAKING GROUND: Friday marks the day the Navy will break ground on the long-awaited $37 million replacement of the Ben Moreell housing development at Norfolk Naval Station. The units, built during World War II as temporary quarters for Navy enlisted families, will be replaced with 388 contemporary homes, ranging in size from three to five bedrooms. The new community, which will be located on 77 acres, will also include playgrounds and jogging trails.
JOB FAIR AT SCOPE: Military personnel, veterans, government employees and their families can explore dozens of career opportunities in a few hours during a job fair Feb. 17 at Norfolk Scope. The fair, sponsored by the Noncommissioned Officers Association, runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. A miniresume available from the association's service center, or a form SF171, is required to attend. The center can be reached at 466-0707. Among the job fields represented are aviation, security, food service, electronics, data processing and engineering.
WANT TO BE A U.S. MARSHAL? If the job fair above doesn't interest you, maybe you'd like to be a U.S. marshal. U.S. marshals will be at Norfolk Naval Station to test candidates on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in building U-93. Candidates must be between ages 21 and 36 and have completed a separation physical within the last six months. They must have a bachelor's degree or three years of responsible experience, or a combination of both. Those interested should call 444-3522 or stop by building U-93 to sign up.
