Luther L. Sykes, 90, of Jordan Lane died Jan. 31, 1995.
Mr. Sykes was born in Portsmouth. He retired from Virginia Chemical, was a member of First Baptist Church West Norfolk, deacon and president of the Deacon & Deaconess Association and was the widower of Maggie N. Sykes.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Franklin, Elizabeth Alston and Corlene Robertson; five sons, Rudolph Sykes, William L. Sykes, Thomas Sykes, Harry Sykes and Junius Sykes; two sisters, Elmira Brice and Lucille Turner; a brother, Vanderbilt Sykes; 23 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church West Norfolk by the Rev. Terrance Sykes. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will be at Fisher Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
