Colonel Edward Michael Hudak Sr., USA, RET, 77, of the 1100 block of Brattleboro Arch, died February 1, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Colonel Hudak was a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and a resident of Tidewater for 31 years. He was a Roman Catholic, an Army veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a graduate of Hampton Institute and received his doctorate in education from George Washington University.
He retired from the Army after 31 years of service. His military career included a tour in Europe during World War II and was commander of the 48th Support Group in Korea. He served with NATO and SACLANT. Following his military career Colonel Hudak was a professor at St. Leo's College and was an independent management consultant.
He was a member of the Retired Officers Association; Knights of Columbus, Council, (NU)3548. He was toastmaster general of Toastmasters of America in Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rene Susa Hudak of Virginia Beach, 2 daughters, Rene Hudak Childers and her husband Bob of Virginia Beach, Kathleen Hudak Slaysman and her husband Mike of Wheeling, West Virginia; 2 sons, Edward Michael Hudak Jr. and his wife Dolores of Clifton, Virginia, and David John Hudak of Virginia Beach; a brother, Stephen Hudak of Swoyersville, Pennsylvania; and 5 grandchildren, Kevin and Courtney Childers, Kristin and David Slaysman and Kelley Hudak.
A Joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Reverend John Dorgan. Burial will be at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery.
A Christian wake service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, Thursday evening at 5:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk will be handling the arrangements.
