Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. on Wednesday named former Supreme Court Justice Louis B. Meyer of Wilson as a special Superior Court judge.
Meyer will replace Jerry R. Tillett of Manteo, who was appointed by Hunt as a resident Superior Court judge in the 1st Judicial District.
Meyer, 61, will be assigned by the Supreme Court chief justice to serve in courts throughout the state. He will fill in for sick judges; relieve districts with a backlog of cases; or preside over extraordinary cases that aren't on the regular court schedule.
Meyer's term runs through 1998.
``Louis has a long, distinguished record as an attorney and Supreme Court justice and a strong commitment to improving our criminal justice system and making North Carolina a better place to live,'' Hunt said. by CNB
