Two suspects in an abduction and carjacking Monday in Franklin have been arrested in southeast Georgia.
On a tip from residents, the men were apprehended about 4 p.m. Tuesday at a shopping mall by the Glynn County Sheriff's Department. The suspects had eluded police after a chase through South Carolina and Georgia.
The men, who were held Wednesday in the Glynn County jail, are charged with abduction, carjacking and use of a firearm during a felony. They are to appear in court there to determine if they will waive extradition to Virginia.
The men have been identified as John T. Jones Jr., 18, of Modoc Avenue, Norfolk; and Christopher Dale Wright, 18, of Franklin Street, Mount Airy, N.C. Police believe Jones also has a North Carolina address.
Police said the men abducted a woman at gunpoint from the Southampton Shopping Center in Franklin on Monday afternoon anddrove her car to Suffolk, where they released her unharmed.
South Carolina State Police spotted the car about 5 a.m. Tuesday along Interstate 95 in South Carolina and chased it into Georgia at speeds of more than 130 mph. Police lost the trail after the car left the interstate.
The car, abandoned in Glynn County, was recovered Tuesday before the suspects were spotted.
