A General District Court judge sent to the grand jury Wednesday capital murder and firearms charges against a 21-year-old man alleged to be the triggerman in a murder-for-hire scheme.
Marlon D. Williams has been charged with shooting 44-year-old Helen Bedsole for $3,000. Bedsole was shot at close range in the the head and neck on Nov. 9, 1993, days before a divorce hearing with her husband of 25 years, Clark C. Bedsole Sr., owner of Clark Electric in Deep Creek.
Judge T.M. Ammons, a General District Court judge from Virginia Beach, heard testimony from several witnesses who linked Williams to the slaying and an audio tape of Williams detailing how he allegedly killed Helen Bedsole, a longtime C&P Telephone employee.
In the conversation recorded by police, Williams allegedly bragged to a friend how Clark Bedsole paid him to kill Helen Bedsole because he wanted to collect money from a $132,000 life insurance policy. Williams also said Clark was afraid his wife would receive half of his money and other property in a divorce settlement.
