RESCUERS OF EAGLES DID GOOD DEED FOR BACK BAY REFUGE

I would like to recognize and give my sincerest thanks to three quick-thinking and -acting individuals who helped rescue the Back Bay bald eagles. Without these citizen heroine and heroes, this story could have been a tragedy. Thanks to Heather Malbon, Bernie Wolfe and John Leavey, the eagles were spared certain death.

This pair of eagles have enjoyed ``celebrity status'' since they established their nest and raised two eaglets last year at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Being the first pair of nesting bald eagles in the Back Bay area in 30 years, they built their nest in the refuge's newly acquired land.

This is a tangible example of conservation at work, through the combined efforts of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and concerned citizens.
