Lucian Leroy ``Jack'' Gooding, 89, of Portsmouth died Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Maryview Nursing Care Center.
He was born in Phoenix City, Ala., and was the widower of Jeannette P. Gooding. He was retired from the Seaboard and Belt Line railroads and was the former owner of Gooding's Auto Paint Shop.
Survivors include two daughters, Lillian G. Eure of Portsmouth and Jacqueline G. Jennell of Eastville; a sister, Lillian G. Walker of Newport News; and a grandson, Stephen M. Eure of Austin, Texas.
He was a member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church and Railroad Carmen of America Lodge 6543 (formerly 6188).
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Rev. James Thomas, pastor of Cottage Place United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eure, 413 Mayflower Road, Portsmouth. Fox and James Funeral Home, Eastville, are in charge of funeral arrangements.
