A Virginia Beach man was killed early Thursday after he lost control of his car and struck a concrete utility pole on Chesapeake Boulevard, police spokesman Larry Hill reported.
James Earl Jackson, 59, of the 400 block of Woodlake Road, was driving south in the 6600 block of Chesapeake Blvd. at 12:13 a.m. when his 1984 Mercury Cougar struck the median, crossed three lanes and ran into the utility pole, Hill said.
Jackson was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died about 1:10 a.m.
Hill said Jackson was not wearing a seat belt and that alcohol was related to the crash.
