The infamous Contract With America was promoted as a sacred trust. A few trustbusters within the GOP are backing down on their support. There are only two reasons to lessen their zeal: (1) It was a lie. (2) There is new information. If there is new data, what is it and why was it unknown beforehand? Weasel words are not new information.
The tax increases blamed on the Democrats were passed with the vocal complaints and silent approval of the Republican leadership. We have seen, recently, that any bills, such as health-care and lobbying reforms, can be stopped if they are truly not wanted.
We need to elect a few more fresh faces of both parties who are willing to talk with us, not just at us.
