North Carolina Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. has appointed Dare County Manager Terry Wheeler to the North Carolina Property Tax Commission.
Wheeler succeeds Eugene Wilson, who was elected last November to the North Carolina General Assembly.
The five-member commission hears appeals of listing and appraisal decisions by county boards of commissioners and boards of equalization. It also establishes standards and rules for revaluation programs, and hears appeals from public service firms concerning appraisals of their property by the Department of Revenue.
Wheeler has served as county manager since 1991. He is a former North Carolina highway patrolman who joined the county in 1975 as a tax mapper in the tax supervisor's office. He became tax supervisor in 1978.
Wheeler, an Edenton native, is a past president of the Albemarle Tax Supervisor's Association. by CNB
