Richard Neil Merrifield, 63, of Virginia Beach, died February 2 in Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy after thirty years service, and was retired from Virginia Power Company after eight years service. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, where he was a former elder. He was a member of The Fleet Reserve Association, and a member of the Oxhey Masonic Lodge, in Watford, England, AF and AM. He was also a Naval veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Megan G. Merrifield of Virginia Beach; a son, Major David L. Merrifield of the U.S. Army. He is also survived by his mother, Vernice M. Clark of Venice, Florida.
A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., 2/7/95, at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors, Wednesday, 2 p.m., 2/8/95.
Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
