WILLIAM I. FRANKLIN SR.

William Irving Franklin Sr., 74, of the 100 block of Sunset Manor Drive in Whaleyville, a retired office manager, died Feb. 5, 1995, in Obici Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Franklin was born in Gates County, N.C. He had retired from Greensville Transport Co. in 1977 after 20 years. He was a member of Whaleyville United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class. He was a former member of the Whaleyville Ruritan Club and was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Virginia Rountree Franklin and Benjamin Irving Franklin.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Horton Franklin; three sons, William I. Franklin Jr. and Charles B. Franklin, both of Suffolk and Stephen K. Franklin of Zuni; two sisters, Martha Ann Perry of Sunbury, N.C., and Nellie Mae Robertson of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, Benjamin Butler Franklin of Norfolk; and five grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. E. Lane Wadsworth and the Rev. J. Charles Dameron. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will be receive friends at the residence and suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
