Harry Edward Meekins Sr., 80, died Feb. 6, 1995, at a Nags Head nursing facility.
He was born in Manteo, N.C. and worked as a supervisor for Sears and Roebuck Tire Dept. in Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and was in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Meekins was the son of the late Ulyses and Lillie Midgett Meekins and the husband of Bertie Sawyer Meekins of Manteo, N.C.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Harry E. Meekins Jr. of Stone Mountain, Ga.; one step-daughter, Diana Miller of Nags Head, N.C.; one sister, Ollie Belle Swain of Plymouth, N.C.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Bundy. Burial will take place in the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1033 Wade Ave., Suite 207, Raleigh, N.C. 27605 or Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Manteo, N.C. 27954. Twiford's Colony Chapel is in charge of these arrangements.
