CIRCUIT CITY SALES UP 38 PERCENT IN JANUARY

Circuit City Stores Inc. on Monday reported January 1995 sales of $492.3 million, which represents a 38 percent increase from January 1994 sales of $357.5 million and a 17 percent increase in comparable store sales. ``January's results continued Circuit City's strong fiscal year 1995 sales trend,'' said Richard L. Sharp, Circuit City's chairman and chief executive officer. ``Comparable store sales growth remained high even though January of this year included one less Saturday than the same period last year.'' Circuit City is the nation's largest retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and major appliances, and a leading retailer of personal computers and music software. With headquarters in Richmond, it operates 301 superstores, four Circuit City stores, five consumer-electronics-only stores and 35 mall-based Circuit City Express Stores throughout the United States. by CNB
