A fire Monday night gutted a house in the 6200 block of Sedgefield Drive after burning for about 40 minutes.
The owner, R.C. Allison, said he rushed from the house when smoke began pouring into a back room from the attic.
Glenn A. Jones of the Norfolk Fire Department said the cause was being determined by arson investigators. The fire was reported at 6:43 p.m. and was under control by about 7:20, Jones said.
