A 29-year-old Portsmouth man died Sunday in a skiing accident at the Massanutten Resort.
There were apparently no witnesses to the accident that killed Steven Fry, who was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Massanutten spokeswoman June Brinkman said.
Brinkman and the funeral home where the body was taken both declined at the family's request to release details about Fry.
About 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a ski lift operator noticed a man lying in the snow off the edge of an intermediate slope known as ``Dixie Dare,'' Brinkman said.
The Elkton Rescue Squad summoned the Pegasus medical helicopter from Charlottesville, and the victim was taken directly to the medical center, she said.
Brinkman said she was told Fry died of internal injuries from an impact of some kind.
