GROCERY STORE ROBBED

A gunman robbed a downtown grocery store Sunday.

The suspect entered Lawrence's Grocery, in the 400 block of Market St., about 1:50 p.m., pointed a chrome handgun at the clerk and demanded money, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. The gunman took cash and fled on foot, heading south along Pine Street toward Washington Street.

The suspect was described as black with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 130 pounds. He wore a green hooded jacket, black pants and a black ski mask.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk police at 925-6350.
