BILL WAIVING INTEREST FOR THOSE WHO MISSED PROPERTY TAX DEADLINE SENT TO HOUSE FLOOR

A measure that could give taxpayers who missed the Jan. 6 deadline for paying property taxes relief from interest this year on their late tax bills was OK'd Tuesday by a House committee.

The measure was endorsed by the House Finance Committee after less than 15 minutes of debate and only a few technical changes.

It is scheduled for debate on the House floor later this week.

The measure was intended to help Beaufort County put an end to a yearlong controversy over its property revaluation that saw a record number of property owners question the latest property values, according to state and local officials. by CNB
