BOAT SHOW MAY BE STATE'S LARGEST

The doors of the Virginia Beach Pavilion will open at 10 Saturday morning on what just may be the largest display of boats and boating gear in the state's history.

Show director John Taylor said he expected the show fleet to be about 250 craft, from 8-foot dinghys to a 37-foot yacht. That would make it the largest fleet in the show's 42-year history and probably the largest ever in Virginia.

``I don't think there's ever been another show to come even close to that figure,'' Taylor said.

More than 25,000 people, some buyers and some dreamers, are expected to pass through the Pavilion by the time the show ends its 9-day run Feb. 19.

In addition to boats, displays will feature inboard, outboard and diesel engines, trailers, marine hardware, electronics, accessories, apparel, fishing tackle, marinas and even a nautical flea market.

Numerous local fishing, boating and outdoor recreation clubs will staff booths, as will several state and federal agencies, including the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the National Ocean Survey.

Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. both Saturdays, noon to 7 p.m. both Sundays and 6 to 9:30 p.m. weekdays. Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.

The show is sponsored by the Izaak Walton League of Norfolk/ Chesapeake and The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star. by CNB
