GAMBLING GAMES

The riverboat-gambling promotional organizations seem to think they can turn evil into good, and vice versa, by use of Orwellian semantics. They say that that, even though opinion polls show a majority opposed, ``special interests'' alone are blocking the proposals.

Del. Jerrauld C. Jones, an advocate for riverboat gambling in Virginia, says he had to withdraw his bill in the General Assembly because ``narrow-minded special-interest groups wail and gnash their teeth'' in opposition.

We should determine just who the ``special interests'' are in this issue. The only sure winners will be the out-of-state casino-gambling - oh, excuse me - ``gaming'' companies - ``special interests.''
