WELFARE SYMPOSIUM: A welfare symposium, ``Welfare Reform - What Is the Real Story?,'' will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chesapeake campus of Tidewater Community College on Cedar Road.
Speakers from ``Campaign For Virginians In Need'' will tell the other side of the story and answer questions.
The speakers will be Teresa Stanley, social justice minister, St. Nicholas Church; Betty Hadfield, Interfaith Council, all Saints Episcopal Church; Judy Chorr of Samaritan House; and Nancy Hinch and Eunice Whitehurst of the Social Services Department.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS: The League of Women Voters of South Hampton Roads will celebrate its 75th anniversary as a voice for citizens and a force for change Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the historical Francis Land House, 3131 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach.
Carolyn Lawes, assistant professor of history at Old Dominion University, will discuss the struggle of women to win the vote.
The League will honor WHRO/WHRV and WAVY for their support of League projects and for their contributions to the community.
The celebration is free to the public.
APPRECIATION WEEK: Community Appreciation Week, sponsored by Western Branch-Churchland Family Chiropractic Center at 3115 Western Branch Blvd., will be Saturday through Friday, Feb. 17.
Consultations and examinations, X-rays and scoliosis screenings will be given at no charge. However, a $10 donation will be requested to benefit Habitat For Humanity International.
